Camilla Belle Biography

Camilla Belle Routh (born October 2, 1986 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress.

Belle began her career in a print ad at the age of nine months. She progressed to commercials and began working in movies for network and cable television, beginning with Trapped Beneath the Earth starring Kris Kristofferson. She appeared in Empty Cradle, Deconstructing Sarah and Annie: A Royal Adventure! before making her film debut in Alfonso Cuaron's critically-acclaimed retelling of the classic Shirley Temple film A Little Princess.

Belle completed Poison Ivy II with Alyssa Milano and Marshal Law opposite Jimmy Smits before embarking on her biggest adventure yet -- Steven Speilberg's The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Belle played the girl who discovers the "compys" in the film's opening scene. Her next film was Griffin Dunne's Practical Magic, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Her credits also include The Patriot, Secret of the Andes, Back to the Secret Garden and The Invisible Circus, co-starring Cameron Diaz and Jordana Brewster.

More recently, Belle has gotten good reviews for her performance opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in the film The Ballad of Jack and Rose.

Upcoming projects for Belle include The Chumscrubber, The Quiet, as well as the lead role in a remake of When a Stranger Calls.

Belle speaks several languages fluently, including Spanish and Portuguese and is an aspiring classical pianist. She has been actively involved in various charities and is an international spokesperson for Kids With A Cause, created to provide a helping hand to children suffering from poverty, hunger, lack of education, neglect or abuse.

Her mother, Deborah Gould, is from Brazil; her father is American.
