Coyote Ugly Trivias
It was based on an article, The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon, in GQ by Elizabeth Gilbert who worked as a bartender in East Village. The bar which opened in 1993 quickly became a favorite of the Lower Eastside hipsters. Lill Lovell, the owner, founded the bar in order to drive her former employer across the street at The Village Idiot out of business. It partially worked as the Village Idiot closed and moved to another part of town to the city's westside meatpacking district where it remained until closing in 2004.
The slang term "coyote ugly" refers to the feeling of waking up after a one night stand and discovering that you are beside someone who is so physically repulsive that you would gladly gnaw off any of your limbs that he or she is sleeping on just so you can get away without being discovered. Coyotes are known to gnaw off limbs if they are stuck in a trap.
The film has a cameo appearance by Johnny Knoxville, pre-Jackass fame, and also a performance by the band The Calling, also before the fame brought by their debut album Camino Palmero.
The band playing at the end of the film is Chalk FarM.
Although Piper Perabo was able to sing for her character, it was decided that LeAnn Rimes would provide Violet's singing voice, albeit with a deliberate deviation from her natural vocal range. This means that during LeAnn's cameo in the movie, she is effectively duetting with herself.
The girls are dancing on the bar and Lil and Jersey are talking. In the next shot girls are dancing on the bar and Lil is standing alone, then in the next shot Lil and Jersey are talking again.On Violet's audition night when she gets fired, the girls are on the bar dancing to Charlie Daniels song "Devil Went Down to Georgia". When she's on her way out the door and she stops the guys from fighting, they are playing the last verse of the song in the background. Then when Lil comes and talks to her they play the same verse over again.When the girls are dancing on the bar, pouring water all over themselves, Violet's hair goes from dry to wet and then back to dry again.
Piedmont is in South Dakota not North Dakota.When Cammie demonstrates to Violet the pouring of ten shots, she begins to set the shot glasses out in two rows of five. After she picks up the bottles, Cammie pours the liquor into a single straight line of ten shot glasses.After Violet introduces herself to "Mr.O'Donnell" (Kevin) Kevin's boss comes out to yell at him. The boss leaves, slamming the door behind him, on a close up shot. Then the camera cuts to a two shot of Violet and Kevin, and you see Kevin's boss leaving (again!) in the background.When Violet and Kevin are making out in the studio, Violet's bra goes from on to off to on and then off again.
When the food man comes out of the bar and talks to Kevin he turns around and walks back into the bar, but when the camera focuses on Kevin you see him go into the bar again.When O'Donnell takes Jersey to the studio, the cardboard cutouts are in different positions.Amazing Spider-Man #129 has probably never hit $1000. A February 2001 source (Wizard) lists it at $150.At the surprise party, Gloria and Violet switch places on the stage from one shot to the next.
At the Bowery Ballroom, after Kevin turns out the lights, The vocals start, but Violet is still walking to her mike, and her lips aren't moving.At the end of the movie when Kevin and Violet are talking, they go to kiss each other, almost with their lips touching, then the camera angle changes and they are farther away from kissing than where they were in the last camera angle.When Violet and Gloria go into her new apartment to look around, Violet's hair is straight and slightly wavy, but when she walks out into the street to tell Gloria bye, her hair is in curly ringlets.Lil's hair is longer throughout the movie than at her initial meeting with Violet. This is mentioned in the DVD commentary.
When Gloria is dropping Violet off at her apartment for the first time and they are standing outside talking, Gloria's sunglasses are on her head and you can see the lights in them.When Violet's performance at the Bowery Ballroom begins the first time, the guitarists continue to play during the pause in the intro.Three different versions of Violet's "first autograph" are shown in the movie. One with an uncrossed t, a second one with the t crossed and a third one with a crossed t with a loop. All are shown at the pizza place, and two are shown (the third and first respectively) in the car on the way to her first public performance.While dancing in the kitchen at the club, Kevin's boss is clearly eating in one shot, but in the next shot, he has a magazine in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.
When Violet gives Gloria the piece of wedding cake, Gloria uses the fork in the first shot, the fork is down on the plate in the next, and then she is using it again after that.When Zoe comes back and the water is being poured on her, Zoe's shirt alternates between wet and dry in between shots.When Violet comes to visit her father at the toll booth where he works, she is seen walking fast towards him after shutting the door from Kevin's car that she borrowed, and then stopping for a passing car. However, in the next shot she is practically cut off from running to him by the same passing car and you clearly see that she was still running.At the studio, after Violet tells Kevin to disappear, he goes to turn off the light and blow out the candle. In one shot the lights in the background are still on, but after the candle is blown, the lights in the background are off.

He has also said that the one story element of this movie that most would believe could be attributed to him (Adam Garcia's character being into comic books) wasn't his idea at all.
The soundtrack album of this movie was on the Billboard Top 40 album chart for over a year. It has sold over three million copies.Jessica Simpson went through many auditions for the lead character, but dropped out when filmmakers refused to take out the sex scene. Most of the sex scene was cut from the finished film anyway.After test screening, the filmmakers discovered from the audience that they wanted to see more of John Goodman. New scenes with him were filmed and added in to the final cut.The bar above the counter on which the Coyotes swing had to be raised once the set designers saw actress Bridget Moynahan. Being taller than they originally thought, the bar was raised so she wouldn't hurt herself during dance scenes.
