1 Review
1 is a compilation album by The Beatles that features every number 1 hit single released by the band from 1962 to 1970. Compiled by producer George Martin and the three surviving members of the band, The Beatles 1 includes 27 songs that went to number-one in the United Kingdom or the United States. The collection, released on November 13, 2000 (see 2000 in music), sold 3.6 million units in its first week and more than 12 million in three weeks worldwide, becoming the fastest selling album of all time and the biggest selling of 2000. The collection also premiered at #1 in the U.S. and other countries. The album also hit Diamond certification, reserved for albums that have sold 10 million copies in the United States. This was the sixth Beatles album to reach that level, breaking their former tie with Led Zeppelin. In a press release promoting a subsequent album release Let It Be... Naked Apple Corps (the Beatles' company) stated that worldwide sales of "1" had exceeded 28 million units - with 10 million of those sales being in the US. The album is in the Guinness Book of Records 2002 as the "Most International Charts Topped By An Album" at 35, and the "Fastest-Selling Album", it sold 13.5 million copies around the world in its first month.
